AI conquers Nobel Olympus and will be able to pass tests to improve its autonomous skills

This year has been a landmark year for artificial intelligence, with several important developments. For example, scientists at the research organization OpenAI have developed a set of 75 challenging tests called the MLE-bench. They are designed to assess the ability of AI to modify its own code and improve its skills without human intervention. Based on the work of Kaggle, these tests allow us to see how AI copes with machine learning engineering questions and scientific experiments – some of the most difficult tasks.
If the tests are successful, the AI can be considered a candidate for the status of AGI (Artificial general intelligence) – the so-called “general artificial intelligence” that matches or exceeds human capabilities in a wide range of cognitive tasks.
In 2024, AI also makes a breakthrough in science and changes the way we think about technology. John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton receive the Nobel Prize for their pioneering work in machine learning and the creation of neural networks that became the basis for models like ChatGPT. Their solutions not only turned AI into an everyday tool, but also paved the way for a number of implementations in science and business. In addition, the field of AI is associated with the Chemistry Prize, which was won by the Google DeepMind team - Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper, who successfully used AI to predict the structure of almost all known proteins.
